Jacksonville Kayak Fishing Report - Week Ending Monday November 5, 2007

Now that the wind has finally abated northeast Florida kayak fishermen are back on the fish. Cooler temperatures and fall trends have brought in the black drum and trout, while flounder and redfish are still feeding well. Registration is open for November's online tournaments, the Thanksgiving Slam and Turkey Drumsticks.

Tourney_flounder_hunt_10_21_2007022John Gill caught some fabulous fish to win the JKF Halloween Slam -- he caught a 25.8" red, 25.5" trout, and 23.8" flounder for an aggregate score of 75.1". He was followed by Frank Gregg in 2nd 68.8", Mike Kogan in 3rd with 66.2", and Dan Arvin in 4th with 63.7". Bob Morris won the October Redfish Spotfest with a 5 spot red and was followed by Mike Kogan in 2nd, and John Gill in 3rd.

Robbie Robertson and Mike Kogan enjoyed a great bite fishing creeks near the JTB bridge. The pair tallied over 25 reds including 6 slot fish to 28", 18 black drum with 2 keeper stringers, 4 trout to 17" and 2 sheepshead.

Pitpok Andrew Mizell had a personal best day on flounder landing 3 flatties to 23" and 2 slot reds. Mark Dennis landed 4 reds to 22" and a trout working creeks in St. Marys. Rich Sletchta fished Hanna Mills Creek and brought in 25 trout to 18", 8 reds, and 4 black drum.

Nicefloodred11207Rich Santos braved high wind conditions during the week to catch 2 quality reds on fly working flooded grass in Horseshoe Creek. Also out in the wind, Mike Kogan worked Ft. George River for 13 black drum and 5 trout to 17".

Pb040295largeJoe Kiegel and John Stewart fished Etowah Creek and landed half a dozen trout and a 29" bonnet head shark. Tom Derringer of St. Augustine caught 3 slot reds in Pellicer Creek and reports it is making a comeback after being hard hit by the recent red tide outbreak.
